The OS is Windows 7. Are there keyboard short cuts or features in Control Panel that will allow me to turn Num Lock on?
Thanks. I think you nailed it. They are acting like they are out of sync: seems like one is on, the other is off. Then when I toggle the num lock on the local computer the opposite happens.

Press the num lock key on your keyboard while connected to the remote. Make sure your remote window is teh active one. On mine I have to wait a few seconds for the remote to signal bak that the caps lock is on. If your machine and the remote are out of sync then when you put your num lock on it will turn the remote num lock off. Move the mouse to a window on your machine and click it to make it active. Now press teh num lock which will make your machine and teh remote be in sync. Now go back to teh remote window and press the num lock once and wait at least 5 seconds before trying to enter numbers.
