My workplace is transitioning from KeePass to LastPass. I'm trying to cut over but finding it difficult for a few reasons.
- How do I get LastPass to autofill username and/or password in desktop apps? With KeePass, I Alt-Tab until KeePass is in focus, click on the item, and hit CTRL-V. But I can't figure out how to do it with LassPass' desktop app (I'm roughly 100% certain the browser extension can't fill in username/password/form fields in non-web apps, but please correct me if I'm wrong). Here are some use cases:
- Prompted for credentials on the commandline (git, ssh, ftp, etc)
- Prompted for credentials within an application (SQL Management Studio, Remote Desktop, the specific application we use to log our time and expenses, etc)
- Prompted for a password on a protected Office or PDF document
- Any time I'm RDP'd into a client system (where I'm not allowed to install anything) and get prompted for credentials
- I created some "Database" and "Server" items in my LastPass vault, which include Username and Password fields, but the LastPass desktop app doesn't allow me to copy them the way it does with a "Password" item:

- Worse yet, on the non-"Password" vault items, the LastPass desktop app doesn't even allow me to copy the password field when editing the item. I can look at it, but have to transcribe it rather than copy & paste. (Luckily, the password can be copied out of the LastPass web interface).

All the LastPass training seemed to be geared toward logging into web sites, but I much more frequently need to enter credentials into non-web apps as described above. Can someone point me in the right direction?
thanks!
