I think the title says it all. Normally when I open Chrome I get the loginscreen for lastpass. Since a couple of days I get the vault where I have to login, although in options the square for opening the vault after log in is not ticked
Yup, I have the same problem on Chrome. The "Open vault after login" option seems to have no difference whether or not its checked. When I'm not logged in and click on a password form, it opens a new tab and has me log in, then brings me to my vault (like everyone else, this is just wasting my time 90% of the time). I have also switched the option to open up pages in the current tab in case that helped (it didn't). What it should do is have a login view come up via the extension rather than opening up a new tab. But it sounds like Lastpass is on a downward trend? That's unfortunate to hear.
TBH I don't know why our company is using Lastpass when there are open source alternatives like Keepass. Closed source isn't ideal for security purposes.
My wife and I switched to bitwarden months ago. It has been so completely problem and bug free since that I haven't even thought about it, which is exactly how it should be. It's a real shame because lastpass used to be SO GOOD.
Same problem. For me the issue only shows up in Firefox, the Chrome extension works as expected. I tried all recommended solutions with the latest version as of today (93.0 64-bit on MacOS 11.5.2), without success. I had this problem for several months, and finally decided to report after my vault accidentally showed up during a video conferencing session.
Side note: I tried first to contact support via email since I have a personal Premium membership and I'm entitled to that. Fun fact, after I log in the contact form only shows the "Call me" option. I will report in a separate ticket, but I'm thinking that perhaps it's time to abandon LastPass for good and switch to a different company.
I have had this problem for about two months and it seems from this forum, many, many others have the same problem. I have twice initiated a ticket three times with Lastpass support and their response is to not having the 'open vault after login' even though in my request I have said that it wasn't checked. After I send a response reiterating that I do not have this checked, I get no further information just an email saying the case is closed.
I am wondering whether EVERYBODY has this same issue or if just a chosen subset is so lucky. Please respond if you do not have this behavior so I will know that their is hope to reversing this characteristic. If this is happening to EVERYBODY, then it is hopeless and it is time to move on.
Hi @jc94122
Thanks for the information and screenshots! I see that the "Open login dialog when browser starts" is selected in your extension preferences from the screenshot--if you deselect this box and save the update then re-launch the browser does the issue still happen? We are definitely looking to create a ticket so our development team can investigate and hopefully resolve this, and this additional information would be helpful as well.
RachelO,
As you can see from the attached screenshots, I have LastPass configured to prompt me to log into my account, but I do not have it configured to open my Vault when I log into my account.
This is the same combination of settings I have been using for more than a year.
RachealO,
Your request implies you aren't reading the thing we're ALL taking issue with.
In the previous version of LastPass, you could configure the extension to prompt you to log into your account without it also opening your Vault.
In this new version, when you log into your account your Vault opens, even if you do NOT want that to happen and do NOT have it configured to do so.
I will provide screenshots in a few minutes.
Hello,
Sorry for the delay in response, and thank you all for your patience while we tested this. Our team has not been able to reproduce this behavior in our testing on various machines and browsers, and we would like more information to pass along to our developers to see if we can resolve this issue.So that we can gather more information and pass this along to our team, could anyone in this thread who would like to share some screenshots of their settings please click on my username to visit my forum profile and click the "Send a Message" button to send a direct message of the requested screenshots?We ask that you provide a screenshot of your LastPass Extension Preferences, both the General tab as well as the Advanced tab? This is to show that both the "Show vault after login" and "Open login dialog when browser starts" options are both unchecked, as if either of these options are turned on you will see a tab which asks for your LastPass credentials open when a new browser session is created, which then shows the Vault upon logging in. Secondly, could you provide a screenshot or more details about the security/cookie settings in your browser? If you have your browser set to clear all data on closing or block all cookies, please note that this can also cause your browser to not remember your login preference and cause this same issue as well.Once we receive screenshots and more information from some users we can share this with our team to investigate and hopefully reproduce the issue so we can get it resolved.
Those are the other two I'm familiar with. I've used Dashlane, but not 1Password. If there are other alternatives, I'd like to look at them, too. A "family pack" for a comparable price for what we're paying for LP single-user sounds pretty tempting.
And now another week gone but no communication from LastPass any more. It looks like they have given up.
I totally agree that when it was US$12 per year I would manage with the various small issues or annoyances. Now that LastPass is as expensive as other established competitors I am more inclined to switch.
Will look into 1Password (their family plan for 5 family members seems interesting) and Dashlane. Any other suggestions?
I am experiencing the same problem in Firefox on my MacBook Pro. As a paid subscriber this is very frustrating. I have tried all of the things like clearing cache and uninstalling and reinstalling the extension. As time has gone by, LP has become less stable for me and less consistent across all of my devices. I'm considering canceling my subscription and trying another password manager. Why is LP not listening to these problems and doing something about them?

...so how we should take this silence? Anybody has escalated the problem??
@RachelO ...here you are...
Result is vault opened...
As noted in the other thread you had commented on, there is not currently a way to roll back the version of the LastPass extension as LastPass only offers downloads and support for the latest version of the extension--using an outdated version of the extension can cause performance issues or security issues as well.
So that I can help with any other issues you're running in to, could you provide more details as to how the extensions stop working on Chrome and Firefox? Screenshots or more details about errors you encounter or more details about how it stops working would be appreciated so that I can try to assist and hopefully resolve those for you.
I've been experiencing the exact same behavior for a week or two (not 100% sure, but since the extension updated and the UI changed recently).
I have LastPass setup on two Windows 10 systems, configured for both Firefox and Chrome (I keep both running the latest non-beta versions).
On both systems, in both browsers, I have "Open login dialog when browser starts" enabled, and I have "Show vault after login" disabled in LastPass. I also have LastPass configured to sign me out when I close my browser.
On both systems, this is what I'm seeing:
1) Close all browsers
2) Launch Firefox or Chrome
3) LastPass opens a new tab that prompts me to log into my LastPass account
4) I enter my email and password, click LOG IN
-> So far, so good, it's doing everything as configured
5) LastPass loads my LastPass Vault into the same tab that had the login dialog
-> This is the issue. As configured, based on the behavior of the extension before this update, when I logged in that tab should have automatically closed without my Vault loading into anywhere
My first troubleshooting step was to try to "reset" these options, so that I enabled the option that is disabled, and to disable the option that's enabled, reload the browser, check the options are both still as I left them, log out of LastPass, restart the browser, confirm the options are where I set them last, then put them back to where I want them to be, log out of LastPass, restart browser, log back in, check settings, check behavior, with no change in behavior.
(I've worked on projects where an options's setting is saved as "on" or "off" in some way, but the software update cleared the setting to blank even though the UI still showed it as "on" or "off", so you had to change the setting in order to "initialize" (for lack of a better term) the setting, after which point you could change the setting to on or off and it would respond to the setting. That's not the case here.)
I have cleared browser cache and cookies in all browsers. I have just cleared LastPass's cache. On both systems I uninstalled LastPass completely, cleared cache and cookies from all browsers, restarted the computer, reinstalled LastPass, and I'm still seeing the same behavior.
Hello again,
Thanks for your patience while I talked with our internal team to see how to resolve the issue. So that I can gather more information to provide to our team, does this also happen when you log in to the LastPass extension in a different browser? Which browsers does this happen in, or if it only happens in one browser which browser does it happen with? Do you have your browser set to clear cookies or never remember history? This can cause this setting to not work as expected as well.
Could you also Clearing the Local Cache for the Vault? Here are the directions for each operating system/device to clear the local cache: https://support.logmeininc.com/lastpass/help/how-do-i-clear-the-local-cache-for-my-vault-lp010126
Does not work
Since the latest update (which is as broken as the latest Firefox for Android update), this plugin is working "when it wants"!!!! ???
I want to roll back to an old plugin version
I'm really upset. I have already cleared ALL histories and cookies and everything on both Chrome and Firefox, this has "solved" the problem but only for yesterday (but it still continued to open my vault even with the relative option uncheckd).
Today again this XXXX new version is opening a new EMPTY tab (and I have triple checked that "use new login page" is NOT selected).
Right now it's working only on Edge (and I'm writing this on it).
WHY, WHY, WHY ARROGANT DEVELOPER DECIDE TO CHANGE UI WITHOUT TESTING.
I'm very close to give up and close everything LP related (I thought about it even when Logmein acquired the company)
Hi there.
Well, of course I tried that already. It actually messed up my system even more and killed the "status match" between browsers which is something I use a lot. I also tried to install your new version of the binary but it will simply not install.
Clearly I am not the only one with this issue which started in September. So something changed, maybe compatibility issue with other apps but it would be nice to have a real solution than re-install the app.
What does not make any sense is that the option to "open vault" after login is not even selected. You seem to have had that issues for years.
Do you actually have a recent version of the binary install file?
Olivier
As a first troubleshooting step, could you try to uninstall the LastPass extension, and then reinstall the newest version from here to see if that resolves the issue? https://lastpass.com/download
Completely agree. Lastpass, take action please
I have the same situation since early September and it is extremely annoying.
To clarify a bit maybe:
- the login window does not open automatically on starting chrome anymore;
- instead a tab opens and tries to open the vault;
- but it can not open the vault or even offer to login because the extension not being logged into then the vault tab is stuck;
- i then have to click on the latpass icon to get the login window open and login;
- then vault will open and I have to again manually click to close this tab I do not need and do not want
something happened and it is now all messed + requires manual intervention and touching the mouse compared with before when the login window would automatically pop up and all I had to do was to type the master password in and click return.
an annoying way to start the day, every day + it annoys me when extensions go "backwards" in their development.
so, LastPass, please look into this and fix it, especially now that your subscription price has trippled. i feel like we are paying much more than before for less.
I don't want to open the vault every time I login. That is what happens now. I would like to have scenario 1 and I get scenario 2
Not sure what you mean. Sounds to be there is no difference, since in both instances it sounds like you are required to login.
Scenario 1: Open Chrome I get the login screen for lastpass.
Scenario 2: Get the vault where I have to login
