Stolen PCs on LogmeIn Free version

Hi there, I have two accounts with logmein (email address deleted& deleted@hotmail.com) one of my account we have 11 IT reach licences - 7 of which we are using leaving 4 licenses free. The account with no IT reach licences has just had 5 of the pcs stolen from my office (bummer). I wanted to setup alerts for when it any of the stolen pcs comes online, take the IP address and shred the HD also. 1) Can my spare IT reach licences be used on a different account? 2) If not, is it possible to set this up even though they are still on the free product & how can I do it?

Although I know you want to recover the stolen computers, since it has been online, you can connect to the PC and from the Dash Board, change the user account for the computer and Lock It Down so that they can't use it.

Although it isn't a LogMeIn product that you are talking about, it is one that many people would like to see by LogMeIn, especially since LMI is running on many laptops anyway.

LocatePC is free software, and runs unobtrusively on your computer, with no icons, popups or saved emails. If your computer is stolen then the thief will not even know that LocatePC is running, and as soon as they connect to the internet a secret email is sent to you containing the details that you need to track your hardware.

I'm very sorry to hear about how you didn't get back your pcs. My computers were stolen just about 3 hrs ago and am reading everything about how LMI can help right now. Your thread had been the most helpful.

Quick update for you all. Finally had an postal address for where the stolen pc was last online. Unfortunately the stolen pc was not there : <

NTL put a disclaimer on the customer record to say it could be anywhere with 150feet of that address as it was a wireless router. Not enough to get a conviction.

Not spoken to the police person that made the visit so its difficult too know much else. I gave the police the IP address and time on Mon 16thApril, the stolen PC appeared online at that address on 14.00 Tues 16th. The police went around there Sat 21st - - they could have caught them red handed if they'd acted faster - else can i say.

Good work LMI, shame teh rest of team let us down.

I remember reading that when it came out last year, but have neither seen, nor heard, anymore about it. I thought that they ran into problems, legal or other, and decided not to release this software or feature.

Maybe it will still be coming ?

First off, most of us here are just random people - so don't worry about that !

I am sure that the following is not the ONLY company that provides software for locating stolen computers.

www.lojack.com or 1-800-4LOJACK

This is the same company that provide vehicle protection. They talk about their software on Laptops, but I can't see any reason that it would not work on desktops also. It is probably marketed for Laptops because they are stolen or lost much more often.

Here is the little blurb from their website:

Hi... Im just some random person, but please let us know how it all turns out... quite an interesting adventure... Maybe someone could create a program specifically for stolen PC's in where if your PC is stolen, you can log into an online account and tell if YOUR pc is (or has been) online (pre-loaded with magical software that is hidden in the background and starts up at windows login, which sends through isp or ip info to your online account each time it logs on to the internet).

This magical software may already have been invented... if so let me know

Just to let you all know, the wonderful powers of logmein has helped thus far with my stolen pcs. One of them has been appearing online for the last couple of days and therefore I have the IP address and time & therefore can locate the ISP. Passed this information onto the police who were pretty useless to be honest. After waiting all day for the police to contact me I decided to speak to the ISP myself (NTL). They confirmed that the police have a number for NTL crime prevention support and that if they (the police) called that number and faxed them a data protection sheet they would release the customer records for that IP address. All looking good except no doubt the pcs have disappeared now as they've not been back online. At least it looks as though we'll end up with an address for the police to followup.... any luck all the pcs will be there.

Hi Stu

There's unfortunately no way to set up alerts for Free computers. I'd recommend that you contact LogMeIn support. They may be able to work something out, where your other account has unused IT Reach subs. Also, if you still have the IT Reach trial available on your account, it could be applied to those machines.
