New Online Recording feature coming to GoToTraining soon!

Hi,

I am very excited to announce that a brand new Online Recording feature is coming to GoToTraining!

With Online Recording, capturing and sharing your training sessions is going to become a much simpler process. Here is a short video demonstrating some of the benefits.

For GoToTraining: how do I add an uploaded My Recordings MP4 file to the My Trainings section for inclusion in PPV VoD Catalogs?

Hi T. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. For now, Online Recording only links to the training's registration and payment information if you share the original recording. Unfortunately, it will not link to a recording that has been edited and uploaded. We are working on including HDFaces to Online Recording in the next few months.

The video clip referenced above says that

1) automatically uploaded recordings will be attached to the training's registration form

2) if the training is revstream enabled the registrant will be required to make payment before viewing

This sounds like an on demand pay per view capability, the PPV delivery infrastructure simply being the current registration process. If so, that seems to be a very major (and understated) new feature of G2T, not because it avoids the conversion & upload process (which of course is nice) ... but because of the ability to monetize archived trainings using the same registration process as the live trainings (where applicable). This ability to monetize recordings might be the most compelling reason to license G2T since the introduction of HDFaces (and of course a new on demand revenue opportunity for Citrix owing to the revstream percentage going to Citrix).

Well maybe, depending upon how it's implemented. It's important that this new feature preserves the existing registration process. Of course some features of the registration process that are appropriate for a live training would not apply for the on demand PPV version (like reminders or registration cutoff dates), but otherwise the applicable registration features should be retained for the PPV version.

For example:

Questions
All of the questions defined for the training's registration form should be retained and and the registrant's answers stored for reporting as with the live version

Manual approval
Live trainings can be defined as "manual approval". There are many reasons this is necessary. One example is a set of trainings that must be taken in prerequisite oder (can't register for training 2 if you haven't already completed training 1). The same applies for the PPV recordings of those trainings.

Materials
The live training has materials that are necessary to the training. These same materials must be made available to registrants of the PPV counterpart (the "During training and "After training" materials).

Tests
If the training requires testing (for example attendees must pass a test in order to get credit for a live training), then the same is true of the counterpart PPV training. The same tests should be given to registrants of the PPV counterpart (the "After training" tests).

Evaluation
Just like their live counterparts, the evaluation form should be presented for the PPV training (the "After training" and "In follow up email" evaluation forms).

Follow up email
As mentioned above this is needed for the PPV version of the training to provide links to tests and materials and also to provide post training thank you's and comments.

Also the video clip mentions that the recording automatically uploaded to the cloud can be downloaded which of course is necessary. But it doesn't mention the ability to edit it and then re-upload it which is also necessary. There are many reasons for needing to edit the video, for example to edit out an inappropriate attendee, or to edit one small mistake by the instructor in a long recording (don't want to have to keep doing the training over and over until we finally get a perfect one to archive for PPV).

And of course HDFaces included in the recording is a must.

Maybe the new feature works as I described above but we can't tell (we have the latest build but this feature isn't enabled for our account yet). We called G2T support about a month ago when we saw this announcement and asked the above questions. The representative didn't know the answers but promised to get back to us by email (but never did).

If these features of the live training registration process are not preserved for the PPV version then unfortunately we just wouldn't use it, which is a shame (in that case I think Citrix is missing the real potential of this new business opportunity for its customers and for itself).

Glenn, can you confirm whether the registration process for this new PPV feature does or does not preserve the registration process of its live counterpart (where applicable as outlined above), whether we can post edit the recording and re-upload it to the G2T cloud, and whether HDFaces will ultimately make its way into this automatic recording?

I was thinking to upload to Vimeo but now will wait till my question below is answered. If I can host the recorded videos on GTT and have 1 place to send people to view them all, then that may be best quality>

I am trying to figure how I can share a group of videos in 1 place, so I can share a link to all our previously recorded videos with various titles noted - is that available on GTT?

also - I have a number of MP4s that we have from GoToMeeting and they often have viewing problems on other platforms . Should we download this GoToCconverter.exe and then run them through that to clean them up for open viewing?

Yes. They told me that there was nothing they could do about a file that was recorded incorrectly and that I should adjust the settings in Go To Training.

Hi Carrie, there should be no reduction in quality with the Online Recordings. I'd like to help you with the issues you have been having uploading your current recordings to Vimeo, our audio is 16 kHz which should be acceptable to Vimeo according to their Help documentation. Have you spoken to their support about it at all, and if so did they provide you with any more information about the issue?

How high quality will these recordings be? Right now, whenever I upload a Go To Training video to a service like Vimeo, it tells me that the audio was recorded at too low a resolution. And there are no controls in Go To Training that allow me to change that.

Hi Michelle,

All Online Recordings will be MP4 only, if you share them directly from our site they will play in your client's web browser and WMP 12 will not be needed. If you need to share them directly or via another hosting service, it will be possible to download them convert them to other formats using a free tool like Freemake. Your clients could also use the free VLC media player for playback. For now this is only for GoToTraining, GoToWebinar may add it closer to the end of the year. Initially you will still be able to make local recordings as well with GoToTraining.

Glenn - I have a few questions about this (email came today announcing this upgrade).

1) Will you have the option to record as WMV or MP4, because only Windows Media Player 12 can play MP4 without installing a coderec. Many of my clients won't have Windows Media Player 12.

2) If you can't choose a different file type other than MP4 will there be a converter program so that you can download the file as MP4 and then convert to WMV?

3) Will you still be able to UPLOAD WMV files to GTT and have it generate a URL for distribution?

4) Is this change limited to GTT right now or will it also move to GoToWebinar soon? I use both very heavily and need to know what will be effected when the email arrives saying my account has been updated.
