Update State / Province lists for better accuracy

As you can see on this thread we do make regular updates to the GoTo registration process (last made 12/15/20), and there are plans to make additional improvements in the coming year. As soon as these are completed we will certainly update the Community with additional information.

Frustaded, not a single soul from GTW is seeing this thread? Since 2017 not having the possibility of choosing the Country and Brazil and present the actual states from it, or Argentina, or any country in LATAM. This is awfull!

My organization works with several states and providences across the United States. When using the pre-generated sign-up form questions, our clients have noticed that American Samoa nor the Northern Mariana Islands is an option to select in the State/Province dropdown.

Does anyone know how we can add these to the dropdown list manually? Or request GTW to add them to their pre-generated dropdown lists? Thank you.

My comment was not posted as a solution to this issue, just trying to inform as many people as possible that additional countries have been added.

This is not a solution to the problem I've always complained about. it's the State?Province field that is a the problem. While Canadians have the ability to select their province, they have to sort through all US states after selecting Canada. Only the most persistent ever figure that out. And, we have participants from around the world who can't add their state or province. This has been a problem for as long as I have been a customer, over 14 years. It's just not that complicated. Other companies have solved the problem. SO FRUSTRATING.

hi GlennD - that's nice to know, but it's not the issue being discussed here.

The issue is that your customers want to be able to *require* the state/province when registrants pick US or Canada (because that data is important and we can't NOT require it) but have a "none" or "other" option for those outside the US/Canada.

This seems like a huge oversight on the part of GTW and almost a bug. It doesn't seem as if it is all that difficult to add just ONE field to the drop-down selection for State/Province.

We've been asking for this to be fixed for YEARS. We have to do wonky work-arounds to make sure we aren't 1) turning away international business because the form is confusing and 2) losing critical location data for our US/Canada based customers.

Please make this a priority.

Let's see, I think this issue dates back about 6 years. They never do anything about it.

Hello GoTo community. Any update on the issue of the missing "none" or "other" from the state/province drop down list? This is a huge pain point for any company with international clients.

Looks like this question has been hanging out their since 2017 - The suggested solution to add a custom question on each webinar is a lot time that could easily be saved by one quick hit item from your development team.

Please add an 'other' or 'none' to the State drop down field for non-US/non-Canada participants OR grey out the field for state requirement for non-US/non-Canada participants.

If that is not possible (why not?), maybe add explainer text of what the participant can do instead?

Or create a custom question that we can pull into each webinar (we cannot copy every webinar we run from older webinars).

For several years now, I have been trying to get gotowebinar to add the Australian state/provinces such as New South Wales, Victoria, etc. to the state picklist dropdowns on the registration form but to no avail. who do I have to contact so that this easy task gets done?

I provide Webinar only in Italy, but I can't get the province of Italy becouse this list is only populate with US states.

Part of this has to do with GoTo being an American company, and thus are not allowed to do business with certain countries. I hope that is not why they are not allowed to have an "Other" choice.

If GoTo makes an official comment here, due to political pressure, it will be a well thought out "we'll look into it."

It is unfortunate when politics gets in the way of us creating a better, more-informed planet.

Actually, since GoToWebinar is a global product, you'd think there might be a good solution for global participation and the form would accomodate ALL countries internationally. The frustrating thing about this is this registration forms have not be updated in all of the time since the product was launched. I know because I was a customer that long ago.

I would rather the attendee choose "other" than to choose the wrong country, because they have to pick something.

I know this has been requested numerous times. As your client, I feel embarassed when someone registering fo one of my webinars says their contry's states are not listed in options, and there is no option they can chose.

The list of state/province does not include all US territories/jurisdictions. Would it be possible to either add an 'other' option or add the missing US territories/jurisdictions to the state/province list (i.e., American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Marshall Islands, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, and Palau)? For webinars we host, state/province is a required field but with no 'other' option or without the above enumerated territories/jurisdictions being included in the state/province list, participants from these areas are unable to register for the webinars.

I would like to know when this issue will be updated. Our webinars have worldwide registrants and we would like to see this fixed by early November before our next webinar. If you could please update this post on the fix date.

Any update on this? I get so much email from global participants. They end up not registering.

I agree. And I would like a statement from GTW on their intentions.

Can we get this escalated up to a problem and out of the Idea category? I think many would agree with me, this is not a feature request, this is a problem that needs to be fixed by development ASAP!

@ash_cannon it does seem to me that this is more than just a feature request, it is a development blunder that needs to be fixed ASAP. A tool that is as sophisticated and costly as this should not have such a glaring issue that is pushed under the rug.

We are having the same problem, and it is mind boggling that GTW has not fixed this goof yet. It used to work well -- now it looks like we don't know what we are doing. It's not a difficult change -- at least add a dash at the top of the state list for those who are not in the US or Canada. Most companies have a global audience these days.

I agree that the "other" field needs to be added back in. Taking it out was a mistake. Having to create a custom question is not a good alternative.

I agree - Ash, whatever change was made needs to be reverted, it's a very unprofessional user experience for international customers and clearly whoever thought this was a good idea was completely out of touch with the user experience. The state/province requirement needs to either deactivate, or be replaced with an open-ended question.

The crazy thing is, that in the past, we have never had any issues with this. State was always a "requirement" but then when the registrant chose a country other than USA/Canada, it just took the "required" part away from the "State" field. Anyway, hopefully something gets worked out!

While we do not have any alternatives to the current default listings of States and Provinces, I have made this conversation into an Idea so that others can make note as a future improvement idea.

Ash - That is a work around perhaps, but not a solution. That leaves the state / province question down with the auxiliary questions and not up with the rest of the customer information. That doesn't look very professional. Is there not at least an 'other' for the state and province?

If you need registrants to enter specific data to confirm their qualifications, I would make a custom Registration Question, and check the box to make the answer mandatory. The question type needed if there are more than just a few territories would be 'open ended'.

We are experiencing the same problem as Liz. We have registrations from around the globe, the majority from the United States, but some from Australia. The state/province list is only allowing our registrants to select a US or Canadian state / province. How can we collect state information from other countries?
