VPN “User Authentication Failed” on iPhone

I added the VPN profile to my iPhone 7 but when I try to turn on the VPN I receive the “User Authentication Failed” error message. The same thing happens on my iPad. I set up the client without the “Send all traffic over VPN “ checked.
Also the settings tab is grayed out on bothe the mobile clients.
