Function "error_reporting(E_ERROR)"?

I'm trying to use the script shown here.

Someone know what's the purpose and use of "error_reporting(E_ERROR)" function?

simple google of the function tells you what it does http://ca.php.net/error_reporting it sets the error reporting level. So in this case 1 E_ERROR (integer) Fatal run-time errors. These indicate errors that can not be recovered from, such as a memory allocation problem. Execution of the script is halted.
