Searching Vault fields question

I have an email account in live.com. (Live is a Microsoft Outlet account.)

I call it my live email or my email. And I want to search for it that way. But in the vault, neither work. I can only find it if I search for Outlook.

I have changed the name to LIVE in Lastpass.

I have added LIVE, EMAIL and other words to Comments.

Why is search not finding this?

This is one of several problems I have when searching.

When this was set up, the Outlook logo was added to display, but this is an image. There must be some meta information that it is searching rather than the two fields available to me.

How does search work? What fields does it search? Are there advanced search tricks (wildcards,. boolean logic)?

There are company names, domain names, functions of sites, marketing names, urs, and brand names that we cannot change. We can refer to a website/account any way we like. Compounding this would be having multiple accounts under one web site, such as multipole gmail ids.

How can I label a record so that it will come up in the way I search?

Hi @velluml,

In our testing (on Firefox on Windows as well as using the most up-to-date LastPass mac app on a mac) search does function as described--typing anything in the search bar searches an entire entry, it does not need to be an exact search from the beginning.

Could you try uninstalling the LastPass mac app by quitting and dragging the app from your Applications folder to the Trash, restarting your computer, then reinstalling from here to see if it fixes this issue? https://lastpass.com/download/

I am happy Lastpass user.

I have been using to Legacy Lastpass client on Mac.

I have tons of passwords and I control them by searching (mainly non browser systems)

- On Legacy client you can search by adding couple words from a name and interface return passwords matching the criteria: Very handy free text search.

- On new client: you must type password name exactly from a beginning.

My use case is that we have multiple users on our enterprise and shared password are not always named similarly:

- I can search: CustomerName Admin for all matching password on legacy

CustomerName Admin

CustomerName Administrator

CustomerName - DEV - Admin

Administrator - TEST -CustomerName

- With new client this is impossible

QUESTION: What are the plans to add similar free text search to new client as in legacy is available?

Hello, a uninstall/reinstall seems to have improved the experience. Chrome is my default browser, but searching seems to be working now in Chrome and Edge.

If significant, the poor search results were in a linked personal account. Thanks for the tip! Best regards, Judy

Apologies as I'm not sure what troubleshooting steps you've tried so far, could you try uninstalling the LastPass extension and reinstalling from here to see if then the search works as it should? https://lastpass.com/misc_download2.php

I think there's a bug in searching, or it behaves in an unexpected manner. I have Home Town Credit Union as a Name. If I enter 'home' in the search, it's not found. But it shows up searching with 'credit'. Three are returned with 'credit'. If I then further search with 'home', then that single account is found. This has been a consistent behavior since I've had LastPass. This does not make sense at all! Ideas? Regards, Judy

Hello @gdsoftwaremeans

You should be able to use the Search function in LastPass to search any text in any of the text saved in any fields in your entries. The search will look for the text you've entered in the search field and show results from any of your vault items that have that matching text in any of the saved fields, including secure notes, addresses, etc. You can add an account "nickname" or any other notes in the Notes section of an entry and when searching your vault you the entry will show as a result, and there is not currently support for wildcards or boolean logic in the search function.

For example, if you have two Gmail accounts saved in your Vault you could edit one entry and add the text "goofy" to the Notes section of that entry, save to update the entry, and then when using the Search function typing "goofy" will show that Gmail entry in the results.
