Anybody else having trouble with the new LAN access feature? It asks me for ID and password, but nothing works.
I have my answer from LMI:
The following criteria is required in order to use Connect On LAN funcionality :
- Control Panel/Windows Firewall - File and printer sharing has to be allowed on the target computer
- Local admin credentials needed on target computer
- Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Local Security Policy/Local Policies/Security Options: Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts has to be set for ClassicWhen connecting to or from a Vista/Windows 7 machine, you may also need to disable Windows User Account Control.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

In other words, this feature is useless unless you use XP Professional (won't work on XP Home) and are willing to disable an important security feature (UAC) in Vista or Windows 7….
Why am I not surprised?
Thanks for the solution to everyone who replied this post keep suggesting solutions
keep doing this FaceTime for PC
I agree with everyone else, its funny, not one computer out of a network of 30 I cannot connect on LAN, EXCEPT the actual server...
some vary can help me I deleted my recycle bin and I cant geted back
I couldn't agree more.
I never got it to work either. I haven't tried disabling UAC and probably won't. Since I am waiting for normal features and behaviour to be as it was before, I am not even paying attention to this or anyother new feature, first I want what was already there for a long time to work as it did.
How about we fix bugs and improve stability of current features, instead of introducing half-backed features that bring along even more bugs?
I'd give anything to go back to the tech console as of Jan-2011, before this feature and several bugs where introduced!
it did not work even after disabling UAC and enabling network sharing.
