ISA Proxy Authentication

Hi,

 

I'm looking at buying LogMeIn Rescue for use in our corporate environment. It works perfectly in regards to accessing desktops off site, or people who normally connect via VPN. What sells it to us is that a client does not need to be pre-installed on the host machine

 

Well, it nearly works perfectly. Our ISA server is mostly blocking it. 

 

Looking at the ISA logs it looks like the reason why is that LogMeIn Rescue finds the ISA server fine, but access is then denied as the user is "anonymous". It is a security requirement that all internet access is authenticated.

 

I cannot find anywhere in LogMeIn Rescue as to how to set the proxy authentication, the only notes on site here I've found relate to LogMeIn free which has a system tray icon.

 

This is the sticking point between buying it or not, so if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

Hi, I have the same problem. I have not spent any time trying to work out a rule so if anyone can help with that it would be much better. However, I do have a solution but don't tell your Sysadmin. My understanding is that ISA uses NTLM authentication which many applications don't support in their proxy settings. The work around is to install an application that does that for the local machine. In effect you double proxy your internet connection by setting up a local proxy on the workstation where the application is installed. If you do a search for CNTLM it allows you to install an extra service on your PC running on a configurable port number. You then point your application's proxy settings to the local machine on that port and hey presto it works. I discovered this as a work around for Dropbox and it works the same for Logmein. There are some security questions regarding this solution and your sysadmin may not be happy but as I'm the sysadmin here I have deemed the risk acceptable vs. the flack I get off users.
