######### Update: The method I detailed below works but is a bit klugey. Please see the improved method shown farther down. #########
I have been having trouble using the new LogMeIn Client.exe application to access my remote computer using LogMeIn Pro, Windows 7 Pro, and Firefox 26.0. I think I have figured out how to do so:
1. Try to log in to LogMeIn as usual.
2. The usual Log in or sign up page opens. Enter your LogMeIn ID and password and click the Login button.
3. The usual LogMeIn Home page opens. Click on your host computer's name.
4. The LogMeIn Connecting to remote computer window opens. Enter your User name, Password, and host computer's name and click the Login button.
5. The usual Connected to <your computer's name> page opens. Click the link in the right hand area of the page that corresponds to the function you want to use, like Remote Control, File Manager, etc. (The blue buttons at the far left-hand edge of the page may work, too; I just haven't tried them.)
6. The Opening LogMeIn Client.exe window refreshes briefly. I believe this is when the application decides which of the functions it will run.
7. Save, find, run, and allow the LogMeIn Client.exe application.
When you want to switch to a different function, minimize theLogMeIn window you are using and return to the Connected to <your computer's name> page described in step 5, above. Once there, you can select a different LogMeIn function and follow the same steps to access it. If the Connected to <your computer's name> page is closed, you can go back to step 1 and follow the same procedure, clicking the link for whatever new function you wish to use when you reach step 5. It seems you can now keep multiple LogMeIn instances running at the same, allowing you to quickly switch between LogMeIn functions. I think I'm gonna like this new app., once the bugs are worked out.
Now to see if I can remote print...
Hope this helps!
############## Improved Method ##############
I called LogMeIn support and spoke to the excellent "Level II Technician," Heather, who did the following for me. These suggestions worked for my Windows 7 Pro computer, using Firefox 26.0 and LogMeIn Pro:
- Heather removed all copies of the LogMeIn Client.exe application from my computer,
- In Firefox>Tools>Options>Privacy tab, she:
Checked Accept cookies from sites,
Set Accept third-party cookies: Always [I later changed this back to From visited, which had no effect.], and
Set Keep until: they expire.
She then clicked the Exceptions button and typed the Address of website: logmein.com and clicked the Allow button. - When I opened Firefox and went to logmein.com for the first time, Heather remotely unchecked the Ask me every time box on the Windows UAC window and had me enter my administrator password to allow LogMeIn Client.exe to run. I clicked the "In<your e-mail address>" button in the upper R.H. corner and was taken directly to the "<your host computer name>-Remote" window, where I logged in by the same old method I had used before with the Firefox plug-in.
I asked Heather how to switch from Control to the File Manager function, and she slid the Remote Control window to the right to expose the LogMeIn "Home" page underneath it [Duh...]. This is the page containing the the 8 blue buttons in the upper L.H. corner and the 6 links to the right, which will open any desired LogMeIn function. I clicked File Manager, and a separate window opened for this function, leaving my original Remote Control session open so I could switch back and forth at will. Cool!
I later created a desktop shortcut to logmein.com and changed its icon to the LogMeIn favicon, found in a separate copy of the LogMeIn Client.exe application filed elsewhere on my computer. Now, when I double-click this shortcut, LogMeIn no longer asks me for permission to run the LogMeIn Client app., and I no longer have to allow it through my Windows Firewall [hmmm... Heather may have allowed an exception for LogMeIn Client.exe. I'll check that later. In using the LogMeIn Client app. by my old method, I found that refusing to let it through the firewall had no effect.] At any rate, LogMeIn Pro now runs painlessly.
I couldn't find any of this information anywhere on the LogMeIn Help pages, so I hope some users will first find this post and then find it useful. If you discover any problems with this procedure, please post them so I can update this tome as needed.
Sincerely,
Me again
