Computer ID ?

We have recently up-dated our LMI rescue and noticed that there is a 'Computer ID' filed in the technician console. Does nayone know how this hash is created and what it is based on? would it be able to be used to identify a machine?

Hello,

after installing a machine image, LMI can't see anymore one of the two machines. How to fix that?

it a globally unique identifier. it's based on OS and hardware, so yes, a reimage would become a new computer ID.

anything that'd basically be considered a change to the machine to the point where it's considered a new install will do this.

It does seem to be unique to the machine but I also whould like to know what this ID is built from. Will a computer reimage create a new ID? Will a reinstall of the calling card create a new ID?

You can determine what type of information you want to see as it relates to a session. If you right-click on the bar above the session area (that says Name Session ID, Status etc.) you will see a drop-down listing the types of information you can see, simply check off what you want.

To answer your question, the "Computer ID" serves as a unique identifier for the remote machine. Each remote machine has its own Computer ID. The Computer ID acts as a sort of fingerprint for that remote system, as we poll a variety of system information to create the ID. This way, if something changes (drive gets replaced, IP changes) we can still identify the remote machine .

This is important for the History and Notes feature within the Tech Console as well as reporting (especially the session report) so you could use the Computer ID for your own identification purposes.

doesn't show on mine, sounds like your administrator on your account defined some of the custom fields with names.
