Client PC stopped recognizing that host PC has dual monitors

I have dual monitors on both host and client. I'm a long time user and have used this same setup for years and clicking Shift+Maximize has always worked fine. Resolutions are all in tune, no cabling changes or recent updates, it's always worked perfectly. Suddenly, my client PC does not detect that the host PC has dual monitors. Everything from both host monitors are on one screen and there aren't even the arrows on the sides to switch back and forth like there would be in a single to dual scenario. When I'm physically at the host PC the dual monitors work fine, but if I'm accessing via GTMPC the host display properties say there's only one monitor. I can find no other posts with this particular problem. I talked with support before and they couldn't find a solution. I'm hoping someone here knows a fix.

Hi there,

When a client connects into a host machine, it solely relies on what Windows reports back to the software as far as what displays are available. A couple suggestions we have are for a check and for an update:

First while at the host machine physically, check on the Windows display settings (right-click on desktop and Display Settings) to verify its showing two screens and everything looks correct. Second if all that seems well, check to see if an updated driver is available for your system's video card. Performing an update will force it to re-detect what is available and hopefully correct and inconsistency.

GlennD: In my reply I referred to "your" reply when I actually meant a reply I received from another (it was the canned response from GTMPC telling me to do some of the things I already said I'd done ). It appears that message isn't showing up, so I'll list those items here: 1) checking the resolution; 2) making sure all the monitor and display drivers are up to date; restarting the GTMC service; and reinstalling GTMPC.

For another unrelated reason I'm going to get a new computer (client) so it'll be interesting to see if that results in any change. If nothing else, it'll rule out some possibilities.

Thank you for your response. Windows 10. I’ve been using that for a very long time without any problems.

I hadn’t run any updates in quite some time before this happened. Since I had some pending, the GTMPC support folks had me install the updates – no change. Since another responder asked: I had previously checked and completed everything that was in your email. I did it on my own, but then again with the support folks. I reinstalled GTMPC again yesterday.

While I'm in session, the display settings only see one monitor. I once had someone sit at my host computer to check the display settings before and immediately following my remote session and it detected both monitors just fine. It was only when I was on remotely.

Hi @TJH,

Which version of Windows is your PC running? Do you recall it installing any updates prior to this issue happening? While you are in session with your host PC, if you right click the desktop and open the display settings, does it show both monitors?
