I have recently added two discount codes for a total of three tiers of pricing for my live trainings. When I send out invitations to the trainings, I now must advise registrants to enter in the appropriate discount code in order to receive the discounted rate. This works well as it is.
The three price tiers I'm now using mirror those that are used in my profession, which carries an international board certification for clinicians in our health care specialty. To acknowledge the wide range of per capita incomes around the world, my credentialing body has created three tiers for payment of board examination fees, etc. Tier 1 countries are countries with highest per capita income; Tier 2 countries have lower per capita income; and Tier 3 countries have lowest per capita income. The term "discount" isn't used by my certifying body. Applicants for the board certification exam simply select the appropriate Tier for their payment, and the applicant's address on their application aligns with their country that is listed on their chosen Tier for payment of exam fees.
I would like to offer this gentle suggestion: Rather than using the term "discount", is there another term for the lesser fee structures that are more empowering? I'm concerned that the term "discount" may be perceived as "lesser than" in an unintended manner. "Price Category" or "Fee Category" might be a good option.
I do understand that using the terms "discount" and "discount codes" could work in other situations. If at all possible in the near future or at some later point, I would like to use that "discount" payment system for the two lesser Tiers of pricing without using the term "discount". Currently I am instructing registrants who reside in one of the listed Tier 2 or Tier 3 countries to use either Tier2Country or Tier3Country in the discount code section when applicable.
With kind regards,
