I've only been one for about 20 years, mind you. A year ago they started forcing a pop-up on you to sign up for your free license for LastPass EVERY time you signed in. No option to get rid of the come-on, or, I don't remember, maybe it just didn't work, or maybe it worked, but you got a new one if you used a new computer. Either way, that's what I do - I'm on 3-4 new computers every day, remoting back into my home computer. So I got the pop-up 3-4 times every day. And it was a small annoyance for along time, then it became bigger and bigger until I started looking for a new remote control app. All because logmein wanted me to use a program I didn't want to use, wasn't paying for, and wasn't at all related in function to why I use gotomypc in the first place.
After MONTHS of complaining on the phone and on these forums, and being told the fix was right around the corner for most of that time... they finally fixed it! Now, mind you, they took too long and strung me along far too long for me to actually want to give them any credit for fixing it. Like when you have to ask your kid 20 times to clean up the play doh, and they finally do it, then they want an M&M for doing it. So frustrating!
So for about 4 blissful weeks, I got to use the service that I pay for (handsomely, by the way) when one day, I log out of a connection I'm on and BOOM! Please sign up for this great free antivirus service that we have for you! (o) check this box if you don't want us to offer you this again. So I checked the box. I already have AV thank you, and I like it just fine. Don't need or want yours. Next day, I am on another computer and the pop-up comes again! BOOM! Check that box. Maybe I forgot yesterday to check it. Next computer I log into, BOOM, there it is again! So now I'm angry, but as long as I keep remembering to say no, at least I don't get this borderline scamware installed on my computer.
7 days pass, every time I have to click this extra thing to keep something bad from being done to me by a company I supposedly am a customer of. And the customer is always right, so surely they don't hate me enough to force me to keep doing this thing to prevent something bad from happening, right? And then one time I accidentally click yes instead of no, because I'm in a rush. Close out really quickly and hope the AV didn't install.
Next time I go to connect what do I see but a new AV program sitting there. Now I have to spend 5 minutes of my life, and another 5 rebooting, to get RID of the program I didn't want, and was pestered onto me by a company I PAY for different service.
It all just makes me want to scream. Am I going to have to go through another 2 months of pestering them to get them to allow me to say "NO THANK YOU". I don't pay them a million dollars. I pay them, I don't know, maybe $360 per year or something? But surely losing that $360 per year from me wasn't worth the FREE AV they tried to force onto me? But that's what's going to happen just because some manager told the programmers "don't allow them to permanently refuse this pop-up because, you know, we eventually want all of them to have our AV, even the ones who really really don't want it. So make that pop-up computer specific and make sure it comes back and if they don't actively opt-out, the software installs."
WHY ARE YOU ALL SUCH GREEDY IDIOTS?!? TAKE AWAY THE F*&%*ING JUNK SOFTWARE POP UPS!
GOD!
