Early Access to the New GoToTraining Experience

Many of these experienced this morning. Poor performance, lagging, screen delay in refreshing, audio issues (not using vpns) and same delegates have used the old classic for some time and they said they did not like it and we lost over 1/3 time ie extended session by 1/3 as soooo slow to finish the session = Dreadful experience and they wish to use teams or zoom next time!

Does not bode well if you do not 1. Accept these issues

2. Solve them before launching.

3. I do not want to test in live with clients

Also, Some one was trying to come in even though I had approval on (no idea what that was so I excused them).

The troubles I mentioned are not with the attendees; but occurred within the Organizer's control. When my polls "froze" and I could not launch them during my training, there was no workaround that fixed the issue. Would have been nice if there were some place to go to find a solution.

I'm hoping that with GoToTraining, GoTo will make these items possible.

1) That settings for each Organizer be able to be saved so that with each session we are not having to re-invent those which takes time and is hard to remember. Classic version's ability to do so was extremely useful.

2) When the Organizer "excuses" an individual from the training, it would be nice to have the ability to do so permanently for that individual. As it is now, individuals can rejoin after being dismissed. There are often good reasons they should not be allowed back into the session.

3) Would be nice to have more troubleshooting alternatives within the session and have those placed somewhere in the User Guide or in a tutorial. I have experienced several problematic issues that I had no idea how to handle during the session. Show us how to find resolution during the training.

Looks like the screen share options are (1) more limited, and (2) now you can see the cursor.

I have recently updated to the new GoTo and my chat logs are saving on random computers. Now, after a training session yesterday, my chat logs are nowhere to be found. Does the autodownload feature still exist in the new GoToTraining or do I need to manually do something to get my chat logs?

Goto announced the new Experience would change in November.

Then we experienced the fatal software crash of Goto training, and forced us to cancel courses at vast expense and inconvenience to us and our clients which undermined our confidence in the “New Goto Experience”

We were then told that the change would be put back to the 29th of December 2021. This information forced to us to cancel courses an bring in tutors in on non-contracted days at some considerable expense” to explore the new software and train ourselves, ready for the new Experience change over on the 29th December 2021 as there is no training or manual offered by Goto which is poor and always been an issue.

On the community forum there are many posts, from Goto clients stating that the software has so many issues and faults and not fit for purpose and the response from Goto is “we will fix this in Q1 of 2022” and marked as “Solution found” this is not a solution.

If we had known this information earlier that the software won’t be introduced until (I’m guessing) Q2 we could have delayed the training day, and made better use of our time and not cancel courses, and update when the software is nearing completion, rather than acting as Guinea pigs to find faults and develop your software at some considerable expense to us.

When Goto introduced the” New Experience” we were told that “future upgrades would be implemented at no extra cost to ourselves.

This is the latest response on the Community forum from Ash.

@nmlondone4 The new experience won't become permanent until there is full feature parity between the current desktop app. I don't have a firm date on this change yet, but you should expect the switchover to occur sometime after March.

Our Management and Finance dept. are now very nervous regarding renewal of the annual fee on our Goto Training licences, where there is no guarantee that “Classic” will continue as a safety net for the duration of our renewed licence until Q1 2023. We have contacted Goto asking if we can pay on a monthly basis until parity has been achieved to our satisfaction, but we have had no response. We are currently looking at alternative platforms as insurance if Goto no longer fulfils our requirements.

"Pause screen sharing" is imperative.

Use cases:

Freeze a welcome slide as learners are joining, or a "break" slide during breaks.

Freeze an exam instructions slide while proctoring exams.

Freeze the screen to not show confidential license keys or passwords.

Stopping the share results in an immediate influx of chat messages that something has gone wrong, while a quick freeze is not noticeable to learners.

Also sorely missed:

Settings being honored in future sessions once configured.

The ability to size the chat window.

Instantaneous switching the share from one screen to another.

Your Support team told me yesterday that the legacy UI will be deprecated "very soon" while in this thread there's a promise that won't happen until full product parity is achieved.

Should the problems persist, I would first suggest checking with the device's manufacture for any driver updates available. Thereafter we'd want to collect log files from your presenting machine to look at why certain features were not activating correctly.

No one asked you to mess up a working software. Why did you do that? Why didn't you try to fix the many bugs and errors in the current system? You force me to switch to another tool because GotoTraining is not stable any more. As a trainer I'm not using the "new experience" and I have to ask my clients NOT to use the desktop client, because if the do, the "new experience" of the client software will cause sometimes an error in group work. I'm really upset, because my business is relaying on the successful delivery of online trainings and I have to prepare my company for the D-Day (someday in April?), when the old system will be no longer available. I hate it to be so negative.

Hello,

My business is a niche training and consulting organisation, and I have been using GoToTraining for almost 2 years now. I have not had a client training course to deliver for quite a few months now, but I am currently in the final stages of securing a significant training programme that will need to be delivered for the client starting February and running through February/March.

I have previously delivered our training courses using GoToTraining and have also invested significant time during the early part of 2020 in developing and configuring our training courses to be successfully delivered using the original GoToTraining platform.

Given that I have not had an active client training course delivery for a few months now, I have effectively been ‘watching from the side-lines’ regarding the recent launch of the ‘new experience’ and seeing the various issues that have been highlighted within this support forum (which I will not repeat here).

Importantly I am at a critical stage in respect of securing this training programme with the client for training delivery through February/March and (given the current situation with the ‘new experience’) I now need to decide whether to continue to deliver our training within GoToTraining or to use alternative platform. The client has already asked if I can deliver the training for them using MS Teams (quite a frequent request) but if I say to the client that we will be using GoToTraining as our preferred platform then I need to ensure an absolutely perfect user experience and a seamless training delivery (for both myself and the training attendees) when using the GoToTraining platform.

Based on the various issues and concerns raised within this forum over the past few months I have decided that the risk would be too great to attempt to deliver the training programme using the ‘new experience’ as I cannot afford any issues with this training delivery. I have not used the ‘new experience’ before and therefore I am also unfamiliar with it as a trainer, but unfortunately (and this is the main point) my overall impression is that the ‘new experience’ is currently not at the required level of development, maturity, or stability for me to use for live client training delivery.

Apart from the various issues highlighted within this forum, it also appears that it only works with Chrome or Edge anyway therefore it would be a complete non-starter on that basis. I must say (and I don’t want this to sound too critical) but it almost seems like the ‘early access’ period is being used to further develop and test the ‘new experience’ app/platform within the live production environment… and in short, I simply cannot take that risk within my business.

Therefore if I use the GoToTraining platform (which I would really like to) I need to ensure that I will 100% definitely be able to deliver the training programme using the original GoToTraining desktop app launcher/opener – For both me as the trainer/organiser and for all training attendees too.

I need to stick with what I know works (in respect of the original GoToTraining desktop experience) and it is clearly too great a risk to switch to the ‘New Experience’ right now. But I cannot commit to the client that we can deliver their training using GoToTraining and then find out that the original GoToTraining desktop app/launcher suddenly becomes unavailable.

It seems clear that the desktop option is being taken away at some stage (although it seems there are some mixed messages on this) and therefore at some stage it appears that everyone will be forced to use the ‘new experience App, and from that point will no longer be able to use the original GoToTraining desktop app/launcher. This is an issue that I will need to consider further down the line in terms of the future suitability of GoToTraining for delivering our training courses.

But in the near term, my focus is on the training programme that I have to deliver in February/March, and critically no firm dates have been published for removal of the desktop option, and therefore I have absolutely no certainty that the ‘plug won’t get pulled’ on this option at any time. Things always seem extremely vague in terms of timescales with no firm timelines offered, therefore it is currently impossible for me to plan with any certainty and, as outlined above, this obviously represents significant risk to my business.

To summarise, if use GoToTraining for this forthcoming training programme then then I need 100% assurance that I will be able to deliver this training using the original GoToTraining desktop app launcher/opener – For my both myself as the trainer/organiser and for all attendees participating in the training too.

Therefore please can I have definitive assurance in writing that the GoToTraining platform will continue to work as it has previously with the desktop option, and that neither myself as the trainer/organiser, or any of the training attendees will have to use the ‘new experience’ or be automatically launched into the new experience. Also please confirm any settings/configurations I need to do from my side to ensure this is the case.

And importantly I need firm assurance in writing that this option will not be taken away before the end of March.

Without this assurance I will not be able to use GoToTraining and will need to develop and configure our training courses to run in an alternative platform. I seriously don’t want to have to do that. But I need to make a decision on this by the end of this week latest, so please can I have a definitive assurances in writing from GoToTraining as per the above.

@ShirkAZ Can you please tell us which operating system is in use, and with what webcam specifically?

No sure if anyone else has run into this. I have been a GTT and GTW customer for many years and use it as a presenter. Now when I join my meeting, it automatically goes to the new experience version. My audio works but my camera icon is grayed out and when I click on webcam the page is blank. I have verified the settings to approve camera and microphone but the only way to get my camera on is to switch back to the desktop version and viola, the camera works like normal. Any idea what is happening?

This is a deal-breaker for me! I had to change my upcoming sessions back to the old experience to be able to save my chat log. Please make this feature available in the new experience!

Can you confirm that the older version will not be removed until all the functions we have on current gototrraining are on then new version please, and addressing the many points from all users, which all appear to be very similar views including very valid points from @mszeu @redflagman @Pat The Trainer and Jane Moore.

Agree with each and every point - spot on, and many other users experiencing the same.

We've been encountering multiple issues while running the new GoTo experience while running GoToTraining sessions and I wanted to know if anyone else is encountering similar issues.

The setup we usually have for running these sessions is 64 bit, Windows 10, 12 to 16GB RAM laptops that are connected to a desktop monitor a 55' TV screen, and a Polystudio conferencing device.

When we switch to the old experience the issues stop.

Some of the encountered issues :

PowerPoint animations and slide switching is slow
Launching The activities is slow
System response is very slow in sharing screen/Changing Presenter as well as switching between applications
The presentation freezes Every now and then
GoTo app will shut down Abruptly.
Icons appear to flicker and screens blackout

@EMurphyInfTrg From what I understand this functionality is next on the priority list, and I expect an update in the next couple weeks.

All current share (give) mouse control options is fundamental ie all or appoint a delegate.

Issues on size of control panel as outlined by other users and more is a big issue for me and many others. Please update us on where you are on these... Thank you...

I like having all my bells and whistles in one central area. I don't need to look at the top to find A, B & C. Then to my right to find or work with D, E & F, and then look to the bottom of the screen to find and use G, H & J.

With the Classic version...I only have to look to my right to find everything I need from A to Z. Muting to chatting to materials, polls, quizzes, tests, timer, make presenter, and more. If I didn't want something to show...I'd just turn it off. Very simple. So easy.

If I want the bells and whistles spread all over the screen outline...I could undock anything that I needed to place elsewhere. This multitasking is not my cup of tea and to me - seems unnecessary and too much like Zoom. Go To Training is (to me) better than Zoom for Trainers. I've been a user since 2013. If I wanted the Zoom look and feel I would have canceled my subscription with Go To Training and opened a Zoom account.

Here are the only requests that I have fed back:

1. Work with Chrome Books - (For the Classic version.)

2, Allow the presenter to see the "launched" Quizzes, tests, and Polls too. (Without the need for a second computer screen.)

3. Allow the Administrator to select which attendees should not receive a certificate of completion once the class has been completed.

4. Allow the Administrator to correct the employee's name that will appear on their certificate.

Just my thoughts. Please keep the Classic version forever and not just long enough to get the newer version working at full steam.

I appreciate this is a beta version and in development, but, after trialling 3 licences at three venues the following Issues were highlighted:

Lag time and latency from 1 to 6 seconds on actions such as muting, and chat.

Setting not saving and must be setup every session.

Organiser not able to see chat and attendee list at the same time and cannot reposition on the screen.

No option to copy and paste in the chat box.

“Hands up” not clear and easy to see.

No opportunity to pause the webcam.

Issues joining on a Mac, particularly if client doesn’t have Chrome, and having to download is time consuming and may not be possible if client doesn’t have administration rights.

Running videos: whether embedding or running from YouTube or file, lag time and time it takes to set up playing a video is appalling.

One of our organiser laptops will not come out of “New Experience mode”

The new training experience in its current stage of development is unusable and not fit for purpose.

No time line is offered on the community help pages, just “We hope to implement these changes in Q1 of 2022” which is not helpful.

Many of the threads are marked as having a solution, saying that “it will be fixed in time” is not a solution.

@Malcarez Thank you for this feedback. Microphone testing and additional audio functions will be added in the future, as we know these are features customers rely on for pre-broadcast testing.

The issue where previous sessions stay connected will be addressed as well. For now, please make sure you quit the GoTo app after you end or leave the broadcast.

When I close a session, the screen I've shared still has a green highlight around it. And the session isn't closed. When I go back to the portal it says something like 'session underway'.

How can I test my microphone in the new interface? There's no obvious way to do so.

I can test my headphones, but no mike test like the old platform has. Nor can I resize the window that shows my microphone options.

Very disappointed in this iteration.

@mszeu I'm afraid the mirror webcam image is the default view and cannot be changed within the GoTo software at this time. Keep in mind that the Attendee view of your webcam should be normal when you are broadcasting, so the mirror effect should only be on your view.

Will existing GTT users be able to continue using the "classic" GTT interface until the "New Experience" is both complete and stable? I think we can all agree that won't be by December 28th.

There are a LOT of issues still being worked out with GTT's New Experience. There are also a LOT of existing and essential GTT features not yet supported in the new experience. Given we all paid for those features, my assumption is we will not be forced to change to a new user interface until that interface supports them.

I'm using (suffering) the new GoTo for GotoTraining and I'm wondering if there is a way to save the settings.

When I start the training the option "Turn on attendee camera" is always on.

I want to save the setting so the default is OFF.

Any idea if it is possible or it will be implemented?

I'm using the new GOTO Training and I use it to demonstrate steps on some devices through the camera.

Unfortunately, the camera settings do not have the option to remove the ''mirrored view'' so all the footage is specular.

This is bad because the device I demonstrate has an LCD display and show some text...so it's not so easy for the attendees to read it.

I was able to bypass the problem with the old version of GotoTraining.

Any advice?

With all we have today, GoTo is the equivalent of Windows 8 in the Microsoft universe, a shot in the foot. Fortunately, Windows users could keep Windows 7 until windows 10 appears.

Will be the same with GoToTraining? If not, my company needs another training software.

The new application is highly incomplete as a training tool, being little more than the GoTo Meeting application. My company is currently paying for GoToMeeting + GoToTraining licenses, but the GoTo application is only worth the money from the GoTo Meeting app.

Application problems:

The transition between presenter -> attendee -> presenter does not automatically reset the presenter's screen or retrieve presenter mode.

You cannot control the mouse on the attendee screen.

The change of shared screen depends on a window with the previews of the areas to be shared and that images take some time to materialize, which greatly delays the change of sharing.

Controlling other parts of the presentation, such as blocking the micro or lowering hands to all participants, does not depend on icons, forcing to open menus with the need of more clicks.

In presenter mode, the presenter cannot see the clock count if the camera window is closed.

In presenter mode, the presenter does not see preview of what is being shared, unlike when presenter mode is not active.

Drawing tools (only in presenter mode) do not work when only an application window is shared.

The presence of the raised hand goes almost unnoticed to the presenter in people list (without color highlight), which reduces the great importance of this functionality.

When presenter mode is not active, the GoTo window cannot simultaneously see the attendee list and chat.

Participants will see the shared screen in a much small area than before.

Overall, the GoTo application does not allow a good training experience. I only recommend it for mettings.

My initial reaction to the new look was okay however after using it, there were some 'must have' features that were missing. We do 20-30 sessions a day in GoTo Training with our clients so it is extremely important that we do not loose any existing functionality. Particularly, the ability to request mouse control and the ability for a participant to join on a mobile device (iphone) and share their webcam. It would also be very nice to have a built in virtual background option.

I'm testing the new GoTo and I found some issues.

I use two screens: Screen 1 and Screen 2.

Swapping the screen I share take a lot! In the old GotoTraining, it was super quick but it takes at least 10 seconds to swap the screen I need to share with the new GoTo.

I noticed another oddity that happens when I present something with PowerPoint.

I'm sharing Screen 2.

I start presenting and I then I choose the option to duplicate the screen

When I do that the screen sharing ceases to work: this was not happening using the old GotoTraining

To make it work I need to share Screen 1 and then it works.

I find anyway the icons too chunky and invasive. The new interface takes too much space. The old one was very lean and not impactful at all.

I used it today to deploy two training sessions and I found it .....TERRIBLE!!!

The interface is overwhelming: before I was able to have a very lean interface with the attendees and the chat in the same view and now it's all over the place.

The bar on the top is HUGE! and there are other useless windows all around.

The video generated is twice the size of the previous version.

I found some problems in my double screen setting as well.

If I choose one video and then I use PowerPoint to present duplicating my presentation on all the screens the attendees are not able to see the presentation.

It's a bit sporadic.

I do not link it....too chunky buttons, windows all over the place.

I had a hard time!

Dear Gototraining,

I am very disappointed that Gototraining wants to be Zoom. Your setup was far more professional and people had more privacy. This new setup I cannot see my chatbox when I have the powerpoint up. There is no pointer, highlighter etc. I have less control over what I am doing as a presenter and organizer. I have been a user since 2016.

Please do not change to this new format. Zoom does not have your cool features.

Another thing you have no training yet for this new one. The support person gave me your old training information and told me that they didn't know when this new one was coming into effect. I felt this person didn't really know anything and wasn't well informed.
