GoTo Connect Admins, it's time to revisit your user groups. Or, if you've been putting them off altogether, it's time to finally create them.
I know you have a lot on your plate. While I'd love to think GoTo Connect is the only thing demanding your attention, the reality is you're balancing countless projects, priorities, and requests every day. That's why I'm confident that a little effort upfront can make your day-to-day a whole lot easier.
This assignment is for you if you've found yourself:
- Spending too much time pulling reports for leaders in your organization
- Manually piecing together reports user by user to report on teams, departments, or locations
- Trying to balance reporting access with data security
For many organizations, user groups started as a nice-to-have organizational tool. Something you'd get around to setting up when there was time. Or maybe you created them years ago and haven't thought about them since.
But as reporting and analytics continue to evolve, user groups are quickly becoming the foundation for how organizations manage visibility, reporting, and access to data across GoTo Connect.
The results: less manual work for admins, easier reporting for leaders, and greater confidence that people have access to the right information while maintaining appropriate access controls.
First, a quick refresher: What are User Groups?
User groups help you organize users into logical groups such as departments, locations, teams, or functions. Each group contains the relevant users and can be assigned a group manager who oversees that team.
This structure serves as the foundation for both permission management and reporting throughout GoTo Connect.
See your business the way it's organized
When you talk about your business, you probably don't think in terms of individual users. You think about locations, departments, teams, functions, or perhaps a combination of all of the above.
The best reporting mirrors how your organization actually operates.
With the addition of the new user group filter in call reports, group managers can now filter reports using the user groups you've already created in GoTo Admin. That means less time building reports user by user and more time understanding performance across the teams, departments, and locations they support.
Put reporting in the right hands
User Groups make it easier to get reporting into the hands of the people who need it most.
By assigning a Group Manager to a User Group, you can align reporting visibility to the teams that person supports. Managers and supervisors can access insights for their teams without relying on you, as the admin, to pull reports on their behalf.
Give leaders the ability to pull their own reports while keeping visibility focused on the teams they support.
One important note: assigning someone as a Group Manager does not automatically grant access to reporting. To enable reporting, you'll also need to assign a role or custom role with Access user history, usage and data permissions enabled.
Tackle User Groups
If user groups have been sitting on your "I'll get to it later" list, consider this your sign to move them up a few spots.
Take some time to review your setup and make sure it reflects how your organization operates today.
