Confused how to set this up

I had the understanding that Hamachi was a server that created your virtual network, and then you could contact it from elsewhere.  You installed Hamachi on your "want to contact" computer, created the virtual network, and then you used LogMeIn to reach through the VPN to your Hamachi server.

 

Well either I misunderstood the model (and I can't figure it out from any of the docs I can find) or I set something up wrong.  Help?

 

• I installed Hamachi on my home PC.
• I created a new network.  (I don't need fancy features and planned to use client-only mode, but it seems to insist on creating a LogMeIn account and creating a network in Hamachi.)
• The new network is active and has a 25.x.x.x IP.
• I installed LogMeIn on my iPad.  It also insists on logging into a LogMeIn account.
• So now both devices are logged into the same account -- but LogMeIn on the iPad says "There are no computers in your account." 
• It says all you have to do is install the software on your PC.  Well I already have.  Or at least I installed Hamachi.  Is that the wrong thing?  Should I install LogMeIn on my PC?

Thanks for any clarifications and/or pointers to clearer instructions...

To start Hamachi is not a server it is a Virtual Private Network. A VPN creates an encrypted connection over the public internet backbone. The computer you connect to can act as a server. iPad can access remote computers running LogMeIn Free/Pro.

 

Hamachi:

• Does not run on mobile platforms at the moment, to my knowledge.
• Can be implemented as different types of networks like Mesh, Gateway, or Hub-and-Spoke.
• Remote control over Hamachi would be say RDP or VNC not LogMeIn.

Products:

• Hamachi - If you want to share files, printers, resources, or use for gaming.
• LogMeIn Free - If you want to remotely control your computer only, which is also encrypted.
• LogMeIn Pro - If you want to remotely control your computer, print remotely, transfer files, etc. Purchase a LogMeIn Pro account for each computer to use.

Decide which product is right for you first. I would go ahead and install LogMeIn Free or Pro trial on your home PC. Try it out with your iPad and then decide.
