Event Filtering Problem

Question

I don't seem able to filter events with the event viewer or dashboard of LogMeIn Pro2. Can someone help me?

I have followed the steps that I find in the help pages (though the steps seem to be a little be too minimal; the help shows me how to get to the filter list, but not how to do anything more once I get there). After that I took what I thought should result in a filtered event list, but the list does not appear any shorter than before, and it definitely contains events that should have been excluded based on the filter I applied.

Now that I think of it, do the filters act to exclude from the list, or to include in the list? I don't think I saw anything that would have matched the definition of my filter. If the filters are designed to exclude matches that's backwards from what I would have thought, and would make it harder just to view what I want to see. Is that what is happening?

After my epiphany I went back and checked and I see that I finally guessed right. The filters are exclusionary rather than inclusionary.

I think that is the opposite from what one would normally expect, and it makes it difficult to create a filter to see what you want. If I want to see only events with an specific event id, I wouild have to create a filter for every event other than the event id I want to see, or at least those that appear in the log.

Perhaps the filters should give a choice to the user wither to exclude or include, but in the absence of a choice, it would be better if the filters were inclusionary rather than they way they presently work.
